I don't normally write reviews, but this humidifier is not a Bemis for one, it is an Esseckaire and is such poor quality I felt I must warn others about it. Let me start by saying the ordering and delivery were fine and as always, Amazon did their part perfectly. The packaging was a bit flimsy and part of the main unit, a tank guide had chipped off. But this was just the start of the poor quality. When I unpacked the control unit and fan combination, I found that one side had what appears to be the sensor arm for knowing when the tanks are empty. But the other side had a slot but no arm, I think they just forgot to put it on, because there was no broken off arm in the box. This was just a hint of the problems to come.
It uses a spring in the bottom of the reservoir to raise the tank when it gets low. On the one side that does have a sensor, it turns the unit off when the tank is about three quarters empty. The other tank that has no sensor, didn't empty at all! I thought it might be me and that I had not assembled it properly. So my wife and I sat down with the "Manual" which is a pamphlet with total of 5 pages, one page of warning, 2 page of unpacking, assembly, filling information and "controls and operations" and nothing about troubleshooting or any useful diagrams.
After following these rather scant instructions, we found that after only a few minutes of operation it started flashing the letter F at us. Of course I could make a joke here, but I am a bit to mad. Turns out it was trying to tell us that one of the tanks was empty. Checked again and both tanks were still full. I think the one side that has the slot but no arm is supposed to have a sensor arm also. So there was nothing to do, since we are having our worst cold wave in a long time, I had to run the unit. Well about two hours after we had turned it on it turned off. Now it was flashing two F's at us. Checking it we found one bottle was still full the other was three quarters empty. That gives us a yield of about a gallon and a half on what is advertised as a 13 gallon unity. Don't know how they come up with that 13 gallon rating, sine the book says each tank is supposed to hold two and three quarter gallons, which totals to about 5 gallons, but in actuality, we found them to hold about two gallons each for four gallons. Maybe the 13 gallon rating is how much it would put out if you filled it every few minutes, but with a useful load of less than two gallons, there is no use to leave it running if we aren't home, because it will shut off in about an hour. Again checking their wonderful pamphlet, I found no help, but had the great idea of checking to see if they had anything online that might help. They had a website and it covered about as much as the pamphlet. The best I could get from the website was if one tank didn't empty was to use a shim. But of course it doesn't say what kind of shim and where to place it. The thing has some cheap wheels and thus if you put something under them it just vibrates off. So basically the website told me to call their 800 number get warranty service. Of course now it was late and they weren't open. Then here is the final kicker, it comes with a one year warranty but you have to have the sales receipt, and unlike all of the other Amazon vendors we have used, it came with absolutely nothing, not even a shipper. I am sure I will be able to find the Amazon receipt on the Amazon website and download it and print it out. But what a hassle and a waste of my time and money.
I am going online now to order another humidifier, but it won't be an Essickair nor from Sylvane, Inc., because what I ordered was a "Bemis #4D7-300 Digital Whole House Humidifier with AirCare Filter - 13 Gallon" not Esseckair but the model number is the same. Sounds like false advertising to me, since I have owned Bemis products before and never had a complaint. I feel like this is a bait and switch, which I have never experience from any of Amazons suppliers before, and I do quite a fair amount of business with them.
My advice to anyone that might need a humidifier, don't buy this one and don't buy from this supplier.
