This Evaporative Air Cooler, Humidifier, and Fan by Sunpentown is versatile, lightweight and economical way that blows moist cooler feeling air than the ambient temperature. The Cooler easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in your house or office. This Air Cooler shoots a stream of air with oscillating louvers, to evenly distribute refreshing cool air. Can also be used as a fan or humidifier if temperature is not an issue. The remote control allows you to easily change settings. The Air Cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with water. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit that can feel up to 12°F cooler than the current room temperature! This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. It is best to be used in the dry climate or an open space. Leave window/door open if temperature rise or humidity builds up in the room. Add as much ice as possible and set the unit right next to you for better effect.

I didn't think a company would sell me a fan for 200.00!!! I'm so "HOT" right now(pun intended). According to the description you would be led to believe that this unit is a bit more than a fan. There is absolutely no need for this product, it is absolutely unneccasary. It's less than a fan! A fan covers more area than this box of nothing. It is described as an air cooler that can handle approx 150 square feet. That's a lie! I called the company and they told me that depending on where you live it might not work! If you are in the market for something more than a fan this is not the product for you. The sad thing is I paid extra for shipping and I have to pay to send it back to them I'm gonna be out of 73 bucks!!!. Choose wisely.

(More customer reviews)This unit is the same as the Tayama Air Cooler TC-998 and works as poorly.
Only after filling the entire tray with ice and water chilled overnight does this thing have any cooling effect and even than, it's only for an hour or so.
Anything less then ice and ice water will do nothing more than generate humidity and waste power.
Save your money and buy a real AC unit for supplemental cooling.

(More customer reviews)I cannot get a window unit due to my window size, and this unit came with a window kit that fit my windows. It worked absolutely perfect for 2 months. Then, on a particularly hot day, the bucket filled up with water and the unit shut off. I drained all the water, which is an absolute pain in the rear to do due to the drain being less than half an inch off the floor. The unit leaks water like a faucet ever since, all over the floor. There is really no effective way to use it anymore. I ordered a different brand that doesn't have water leakage issues. I should have listened to all the reviews I read. I practically paid several hundred dollars for a few months use. What a waste. The unit cools great, but what good is that with water all over your carpet? Stay away from this product.UPDATE: The unit only leaks when moved. If the water reservoir fills up, and must be drained, the unit must be moved to do so because the drain plug is literally right on the floor and there is no pan or container you can get under it. The reservoir will fill eventually, the unit will have to be drained, will have to be moved, will leak. Once all the water leaks out that is going to leak the unit works great until its time to drain again. Like I said, it took 2 months before I had to drain, but this process was a major PIA. I would avoid this unit, but I still gave in another star because it does not leak except during the drainage process.

(More customer reviews)First off, this is NOT an air conditioner. If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you. It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well. It works by evaporating water. Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect. It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely. I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control
Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.
