12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Dehumidifier Fan - EdgeStar Review

I'm on my 3rd season with this unit.
1. Its way more powerful than my GE portable. Keeps the LR cool when the GE would not.
2. This unit, though powerful, is very poorly made.
Example:
All four wheels broke off the first season (my season is June-Aug)
The unit emits a "burnt tire" smell. finally stopped smelling in the 3rd season. Friends are no longer asking, "what's that smell?"
The digital lights went out at the start of the 2nd season, so no warranty to fix.
The directional blades fell off the machine during the second season. Can not be repaired.
The exhaust hose lasted only one season, then fell apart, even though properly stored ($29 + s/h for replacement)
To all those who see nothing but good ratings at the Compact Appl site: They refuse to post any of the real negative stuff. They fix the comment section to reflect only good reviews of 4 stars and more. Not too ethical, no?

Honeywell HUT-102M Quietcare Ultrasonic Mini Tower Humidifier Review

Honeywell HUT-102M Quietcare Ultrasonic Mini Tower Humidifier

First of all, this humidifier is quiet. I keep it next to my bed and the very faint noise doesn't bother me at all. I use only distilled water in it. That's a little expensive, but I can get one-gallon jugs at Wal-Mart for sixty four cents, so it's better than having white dust all over the room. This model has a "white dust" filter, but most such filters are iffy at best.
Now for the problems. Filling is a pain. If it's not completely empty, water remains in the base, which tends to drip and spill when you lift the tank off for re-filling. So I carry the whole unit to the sink just to make sure I don't get water all over my carpet. (Water can spill if you don't keep the unit level.) Further, the refill opening is on the bottom, so you have to turn the tank upside down to fill it. The tank top is slanted, so you can't set it down. You have to hold the tank with one hand, and fill with the other. It's a very clumsy process.
The last thing I have to say is the blue light is incredibly annoying. It lights up your whole bedroom and can't be turned off. I wrap a towel around it. What were they thinking? Sure, it looks cool, until you try to go to sleep.
Overall, though, it works nicely and has been quiet, which is exactly why I bought it and am keeping it. If you are elderly or arthritic, the girations you need to go through to fill it may cause you to look elsewhere.

Offering a space-saving tower design, the Honeywell HUT-102M Quietcare humidifier features quiet ultrasonic technology that silently provides visible cool moisture. It's ideal for rooms up to 350 square feet. A humidifier is helpful in introducing moisture to your home in order to help you avoid dry skin, chapped lips, dry nasal passages and static electricity as well as keep your wood floors and furnishings in good shape.
Water is atomized by ultrasonic sound waves and propelled in the air by the HUT-102M's small fan, and these silent ultrasonic pulses produce a visible mist. And with Honeywell's ultrasonic Quietcare technology, this humidifier is 95 percent quieter than other humidifiers. Other features include auto shut-off when tank is out of water, variable moisture settings, easy grab handle for convenient carrying, removable water tank, and an illuminated tank window that allows visibility to water level and doubles as a nightlight.
It has a 1.2-gallon-output-per-day and it can run for up to 12 hours per filling. The unit comes with 1 demineralization cartridge, which is designed to last for between 1 to 2 months of normal use (depending on the mineral content of the water used); the replacement cartridge is model DC-102. It measures 10 by 7 by 15 inches and weighs 8 pounds. It's backed by a 5-year limited warranty.

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist Technology Review

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist Technology

I purchased this ultrasonic humidifier a year ago for my two boys, who seem to always be congested either with colds or seasonal allergies or due to the dry air from our A/C. Prior to having this one, we went through a couple humidifiers (either warm or cool mist) a season because they either broke down, didn't do a good enough job, leaked, or were too difficult to clean. This humidifier works like a DREAM and is so very VERY easy to clean. I love that I can turn the dial to output the desired amount of mist. It's super quiet, too. I know others have said they've had problems with theirs being too noisy or becoming noisy after awhile, but I have not experienced that problem. I've also read that some complain about the demineralization cartridge not working for as long as stated or costing too much. I can agree and sympathize there, but folks...you don't have to buy that cartridge. Just use distilled water. It does the same job, and you can pick up the gallong jugs from your grocery store. While this humidifier IS easy to clean, the manufacturer recommends you do clean the water tank every two to three weeks - as well as the water inlet and ultrasonic nebulizer, which are behind a panel that pops off. Don't forget that little bit of maintenance; it's important. I have to say, I LOVE that there are no mold issues with this humidifier compared to other cheaper ones I have used. All in all, after having gone through a multitude of humidifiers before purchasing this one I would recommend it hands down. Best humidifier purchase yet!

Whisper quiet, hygienic, and easy to maintain, The Sharper Image's EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic humidifier with Clean Mist technology is a good friend to have when the air runs dry. The unit works for up to 24 hours per filling of its one-gallon tank, using high-frequency sound vibrations to break up water into an ultra-fine mist and preventing microbial growth on the water surface for healthy breathing. When the tank is empty, the humidifier shuts off automatically and an LED indicator turns on. There is also no filter to clean and replace, so long-term operation is simple and convenient. The unit comes with a demineralization cartridge for hard water and white dust elimination. It also has a cozy built-in nightlight glow. One-year warranty.
