Being extremely dry in the dessert, this has the ability to maintain a very very precise level of moisture in your immediate surrounding. I'm very impressed. Just make sure the units has an sufficient fill of water to draw on and you're set. The cooling function is great and so is the heating. Great price and fast shipping.

Even in low humidity New Mexico this unit cannot cool any room, but right in front of the unit you'll get 3-4 degrees of relief (verified with a good thermometer) plus the benefit of blowing air, moving side to side. The bells and whistles ("natural" and "sleep" modes) are crap, and the unit is moderately loud on the lowest speed (unbearably so at higher speeds). Still it performs its basic function, and I wonder if any portable swamp cooler really works that well. Limited relief at an acceptable cost.

A versatile and economical way to cool and humidify the surrounding air, this evaporative air cooler, humidifier, and fan easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in the home. Unlike a fan that blows hot air and more energy efficient than an air conditioner, the appliance uses water to cool a personal space up to 12 degrees lower than the ambient temperature. The air cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat). The unit sucks air through a wick saturated with water; as the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. A cool air stream then gets blown out the front of the unit through oscillating louvers for even distribution. Though perfect for use in dry climates, please note that the appliance does not work very effectively in areas with high humidity since it utilizes water to cool. (More customer reviews)I needed the temperature in my baby's room to stay the same even though we're in a small apartment. This really did the trick. It looks great is very compact compared to other ugly large heater humidifiers AND it is both a heater and humidifier so even when it warms up in there it does feel so dry. It also has a tip over feature, which or safety is great. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is I wish you could operate the humidifer separate from the heater but you can't. Can't have it all I guess. Oh, and we have a modern looking apartment and this fits right in!
