(More customer reviews)Just received it and it's turning yellow already. But I think it's because it works really fast when they are new filters so I'm going to try and add water more frequently. Other than that it seems to be keeping it clean. I have the Vick's cool mist humidifier and it fits well.

(More customer reviews)This water treatment for humidifiers is called Golden Solution, and I have been using it in my Vornado 4.2 gal. humidifier each winter since 2005. Just one ounce per two gallons of water keeps mineral deposits from forming on the water tanks and wicks. Two gallons of Golden Solution last one winter in my apartment. The wicks last two months instead of one, due to the use of the Golden Solution.

(More customer reviews)If you are using a Honeywell humidifier or any humidifier that uses a paper filter, you NEED to get these! I was even using filtered water for my humidifiers and, STILL, the filters were turning YELLOW in less than a month. I purchased the Protec Antimicrobial cartridges, and all growth has come to a STOP! I should have used them from the beginning, but I thought that by using filtered water everything should be fine...WRONG! Spend the extra few bucks and save yourself from Mold in your air and bad smells, it is truly worth it.

I thought I would share what I found: A clinical study was conducted in 2006, which showed this product was extremely effective at killing germs and mold in humidifiers (Journal of Water and Health, vol 4.2, 2006). Also, it's shown to be very safe and 100% natural (based on natural silver technology...the active ingredient in the cartridge is actually used in many drinking water filters found at the "big box" stores.) One point to mention: it doesn't remove minerals. If you get stains in your humidifier from iron in your water you'll need a demineralization product for that (or use filtered or distilled water). I use it and highly recommend it.
