Amcor AHD65E 65-Pint Dehumidifier with Electronic Controls Review

Amcor AHD65E 65-Pint Dehumidifier with Electronic Controls

I received the Amcor AHD-65E July 16 and, having already read the manual online, immediately removed the unit from its packaging and plugged it in to try it out. The dehumidifier beeped and the "BUCKET FULL" light flashed and then remained lit. Per the owner's manual I removed and reinserted the bucket (repeatedly, and with various time intervals between steps), but the light stayed on and the machine would not work.
I emailed Amcor that night but, despite their efforts "to respond to all e-mail inquiries within 48 hours of receipt," I have received no reply now seven days later. July 19 I called Amcor technical assistance and, after a reasonable wait, I spoke with Keith. Keith was polite and tried to help, but I had already followed the instructions he gave me to get the dehumidifier running. He suggested that I could return the newly purchased machine, but I opted to have someone from the corporate office contact me. I supplied my phone number and email address. Keith said I could expect that reply within three business days.
That time has elapsed, but Amcor has failed to contact me via email or telephone. I have returned the unit for a refund.

The AHD65E can provide continuous dehumidification because it can be continuously drained through a hose. Of course, if you don't want to use the included drainage hose, this dehumidifier can drain to an internal bucket, and it will automatically shut off once the internal bucket fills.Ideal for basements.

DeLonghi DD45P 45-Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier with Patented Pump Review

DeLonghi DD45P 45-Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier with Patented Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This DeLonghi DD45P Dehumidifier is so far advanced over other dehumidifiers I have owned over the past 15 to 20 years, it is like a newly invented appliance for 2010.
It's the pump stupid! Why haven't all dehumidifiers been designed with automatic pumps from the get-go? Did appliance designers think that a homeowner would gladly trade a dry basement for the chore of emptying a bucket of water every day?
The initial set-up was relatively easy after I read the instructions twice. The controls are understandable and fairly intuitive.
This is a smart dehumidifier compared to the older manual dumbbells I have owned. The display reads your room temperature. The unit can be set on auto, to run until it brings the humidity level in percent numbers down to a level you decide. It can be set to run for a selected time period or just run continuously at one of its two different speeds, high and not quite as high. It has delayed start and delayed stop if desired. If you choose to not pump the condensate to a nearby drain or out the window, don't turn on the pump, and it will fill its built-in bucket instead. All this and energy star rated to boot.
The pump works well. The supplied condensate hose, which is 3/8" OD clear vinyl, runs up a corner wall in my basement about 8ft, then about 8ft more along the ceiling of my adjoining laundry room, and 4ft down into a laundry tub. I did have to add 8ft more hose to make the distance, but the pump handles it all very nicely. I bought this model for the pump and I consider this purchase as one of my better moves. It has been running 24/7 for about 6 weeks, and I just forget its there. My fingers are crossed.
The only negative features (in my opinion) are that the hose for the pump comes out the front of the unit near the base and the tiny wheels don't lift the unit high enough up off the floor to run the condensate hose under the unit towards the back so its not so visible.

DeLonghi DE400P Energy-Star 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Pump Review

New, out of the box, I turned this dehumidifier on and what a noise it made.
I removed the cabinet from around the unit and found that the fan blades were striking the top of the compreser. Because the threads of two of the three bolts that hold the compresser in place were stripped and the nuts could not be tightened down on those bolts thus the compresser leaned over to get itself under the fan blades. I added washers to the bolts so that the nuts didn't have as far to go to tighten and re-applied the nuts which pulled the compresser upright and now the fan blades don't hit. The person who installed those compresser nuts had to know they had stripped the bolts but sent it out to the customer anyway.
Now, two days later and the pump doesn't pump.
I've written DeLonghi telling them that I will ship the unit at my expense to either DeLonghi or Amazon, their choice but that I wanted my money back.
I'll keep you posted.
Pete

Haier HDN305 30-Pint Capacity Mechanical Control Dehumidifier Review

Haier HDN305 30-Pint Capacity Mechanical Control Dehumidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of the first home appliances I've purchased from Amazon, and while its hard to give a glowing review for something so mundane as a dehumidifier, I'm pleased with the way this one works.
Our basement is basically a finished root cellar, in a 19th Century home. We have work supplies, clothing, some exercise equipment as well as some musical instruments stored down there, so keeping the humidity level down is a critical need to preserve what we store down there.
The unit has a small footprint, takes up about the same space as a paper shredder. It's quiet, and in our cellar, which is probably no more than 700 sq ft, on the mid-level setting the unit fills up within about 48-72 hours, depending on recent weather (if it rains a lot, it fills up in less time).
The catch basin has a drainage hose in the event your basement/cellar has a central drain, or a swivel handle on the inside for easy removal and dumping. The fill level also leave enough room from the top so that water does not accidentally spill when transporting it for dumping. Overall a smart design feature.
I can't speak for the energy efficiency of the unit (though it seems to be rated well), but overall it does the job, and I am pleased with the product. I notice that the drier air in our cellar seems less musty then it did before I installed the unit.

Eva-dry EDV-E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini Dehumidifer Review

Eva-dry EDV-E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini Dehumidifer

I was surprisingly pleased with the Eva Dry mini dehumidifier. I hang mine just out outside our guinea pig's cage and it absorbs excess moisture quite effectively, keeping their food and cage area from getting too humid. It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture but the indicator will go from blue to bright pink, and the unit will be noticeably heavier. Just plug the unit into the socket overnight to refresh.

This high capacity renewable dehumidifier has been designed to adsorb moisture from small, enclosed areas. It will help protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to operate. Just hang the Eva-dry unit in a closet, or you can place it in other small, enclosed spaces, and it will start to adsorb moisture. There are no batteries required or cords to plug in, the unit works without power. There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be "renewed". The unit will adsorb approximately 8-10 ounces of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 6 - 8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed it cannot leak or spill. This unit uses a specialized, engineered, crystallized silica gel that is odorless, non-toxic and completely safe. When the indicator crystals turn pink it is time to "re-new" the unit. Simply remove the unit from where it is adsorbing moisture and plug it into a power outlet or power strip in a well ventilated area (bathroom with extraction fan, garage, outside, etc.). There is a built-in heater that will warm the crystals allowing them to expand and release the moisture as water vapor into the outside air. It takes about 12-14 hours to completely re-new the unit. When it is completely renewed the indicator crystals will change back to blue. The unit is brand new again and ready to adsorb another 8-10 ounces of moisture. The crystals will remain active for 10 years and we offer a 5 year limited manufactures warranty on all EDV500 units.
