Model 365 Mini Dehumidifier Review

Model 365 Mini Dehumidifier
Average Reviews:

I hoped this product would lower the humidity in my gun safe but was disappointed. My room dehumidifier had died and hope this mini dehumidifier would protect my guns. I placed it in my gun safe along with a humidity meter. Left it in there a couple of days and checked it. The meter on the outside of my safe read 67%, then read the meter in the safe 63%. Wow dropped 4%, closed the safe and let it go for a week and the meter read 65%. Even thought the window was purple indicating the humidifier was charged I plugged it in to recharge and once again would only drop humidity 2-4%. What a waste of money. If you bought this product get a humidity meter and check the humidity inside and outside your gun safe. My safe is an average sized safe.

DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier Review

DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The first DeLonghi 30-pint unit I received from Amazon looked great but did not function properly; the cooling unit that removes water from the air didn't work. I returned the unit for an exchange. (Amazon gets five stars for their excellent return process). The second unit arrived in good condition and worked for about 2 minutes before the compressor in the cooling unit stopped, never to start again. I tested the unit in an 80 degree bathroom at 100 percent humidity and it did not remove a drop of water from the air. The literature with the unit does not provide any help on this type of malfunction, but does give a Web site address (www.delonghi.com). The Web site had great graphics but no useful information. A note to the company asking if there was any way to solve the problem elicited a recommendation to return the unit.
The DDH30 dehumidifier appears well-made in other respects, but clearly there is a quality control problem with the refrigeration unit, or it is easily damaged during shipment. It appears impossible for a homeowner to open the unit to do any minor repairs, so the only alternative is to return units that don't work. An electrical schematic is located behind the removable water bucket, but isn't very helpful because there isn't any easy way to access the unit's innards. I notice that the controls for the DDH30 are more primitive than the larger models. Perhaps those more sophisticated units are more reliable, but I'm not taking the chance...
In my experience, the DDH30 dehumidifier -- like the DeLonghi web site -- looks great but isn't very useful.

Eva-dry Renewable EDV-300/E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifer Review

I purchased one EDV-300 for a small closet and one EDV-500 for a larger closet. I LOVE the EDV-500 but this smaller version seems to always be "pink" -- meaning it needs to be charged/dried out. It was even pink in the package when I received it. Once charged, the granules do turn blue but they get pink very quickly (a few days). Also, my husband knocked it over and granules fell out all over the place. I was able to repair it but lost a lot of granules. My advice is spend the extra money and get the EDV-500.

This mini dehumidifier has been design to adsorb moisture from small enclosed areas. It will help protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to operate. Just hang the eva-dry unit in a closet, or you can place it in other small enclosed spaces, and it will start to adsorb moisture. There are no batteries required or cords to plug in, the unit works without power. There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be "re-newed". The unit will adsorb approximately 6 ounces of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 3 - 8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed it cannot leak or spill. This unit uses a specialized engineered crystallized silica gel that is odorless, non-toxic and completely safe. When the indicator crystals turn pink it is time to "re-new" the unit. Simply remove the unit from where it is adsorbing moisture and plug it into a power outlet in a well ventilated area (bathroom with extraction fan, garage, outside, etc.). There is a built-in heater that will warm the crystals allowing them to expand and release the moisture as water vapor into the outside air. It takes about 8-10 hours to completely re-new the unit. When it is completely renewed the indicator crystals will change back to blue. The unit is brand new again and ready to adsorb another 6 ounces of moisture. The crystals will remain active for 10 years and we offer a 5 year limited manufactures warranty on all EDV300 units.

I bought this because it was cheap and I was using a borrowed one at the office (where the a/c blasts whether we need it or not). I got it yesterday and it kicks the big green Black and Decker I was using's butt. With the other one I had to keep it on the highest settings. This one is smaller and it can either be upright or laying down. I keep it laying down (seems more stable that way). I run it at the low power setting and at medium heat setting and it warms up better than the other one did. I JUST READ OTHER REVIEWS ELSEWHERE THAT IT CAN BREAK AFTER A FEW WEEKS. So remember when you read this review that I've only had it for a day and a half. I'm loving it but I'm cautious about buying one for home. I'll wait and see how this one stands the test of time.
So far:
It is QUIET,
It is POWERFUL,
It is SMALL.

Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier Review

Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis. To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems. The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".
This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate. The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly. I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom. My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating. The product loses one star for that.
I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

It extracts the moisture from the air and stores it in a spill-proof reservoir. Just plug it in and it quietly dries the air.Features an automatic shut off switch to shut the unit off when the water reservoir is full. When this occurs a"full" indicator light will alert you when the reservoir needs to be emptied. Holds up to 16 oz.

Honeywell HWM-500 UV Warm Moisture Humidifier Review

Honeywell HWM-500 UV Warm Moisture Humidifier
Average Reviews:

***Approximate measurement***
Entire unit: 14x11x7 (inches)
Tank:14x7x7 (inches)***10/31/2007***
This is my first humidifier, but I am extremely satisfied with it.
The instruction is very clear and easy to follow.
It is easy to put together, simply attach the tank to the bottom.
All suggest to me that this is a very efficient machine for a warm mist humidifier(well, at least to me):
1. Within 30 minutes of use, it works and I can feel the difference.
2. No leaking.
3. No noise (slight bubbling sound is actually soothing to me, not noisy.)
4. Sturdy construction.
5. Humidity adjustable (many options, not just 2).
6. Large tank and easy to refill.
7. Low maintenance. (No filter required if you have regular tap/city water.)
8. Easy to clean. (With ultraviolet lights, cleaning isn't required on a weekly basis.)
9. For cats owners: My cats don't get scared of or hurt by it.
I don't think I could ask for more.
***Well...11/5/2007***
It's still great, although I did notice some issues:
1. A bit too much work and too heavy when refill:
For men, this might NOT be an issue, but for women like me, it might be.
To refill, the tank needs to be turned upside down because the tank cap is at the bottom of it. When I am to flip a full tank of water over and put it back onto the base, I do worry. It's quite heavy, and it gets a bit tiring since I do need to refill it every day. There is no easy access!
2. Frequency of refill:
Quote: "It requires no messy filters to replace and runs up to 24 hours each filling." I do need to refill it every 12 hours every day when I:
(1) have it on the highest humidity level
(2) have it on most of the time (12 hours)
So I do refill it every day I get up and every night before I go to bed. I assume it would last up to 24 hours like it says only if the humidity level is set at the lowest, which probably wouldn't cause an obvious difference to the room's humidity.
In all, it's still a good buy. It does help! I notice that I don't wake up with the driest skin in the morning anymore.
**A little tip**
A teaspoon of salt helps it evaporate more moisture, although it makes the water run out faster.
**I attached a picture of mine with my Treo next to it. The ratio should give a brief idea of how big the machine is.

I was surprisingly pleased with the Eva Dry mini dehumidifier. I hang mine just out outside our guinea pig's cage and it absorbs excess moisture quite effectively, keeping their food and cage area from getting too humid. It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture but the indicator will go from blue to bright pink, and the unit will be noticeably heavier. Just plug the unit into the socket overnight to refresh.

Holmes HM630-U Tower Humidifier Review

Holmes HM630-U Tower Humidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the past, I have been very disappointed with humidifiers. Either they leak or don't seem to do much of anything. However, this Holmes U Tower humidifier is sleek in design and has a few nice features such as:
- The two filters are easily accessible at the base of the unit.
- The tank is easy to handle, fill, and not too heavy to carry. If you have a small sink, you can always fill this slightly long tank in the bathtub or by using a teapot or water jug.

- You have the option to set the humdifier manually on low, medium, or high humidity continuously or you can set it to automatically go on at low, medium, or high at a pre-set humidity level. If you use the automtic feature, then the unit cycles on and off like a thermostat would (although it does that too frequently for my taste).
- In addition, the display shows the humidity of the room the unit is in, which is a nice feature.
- The humidity level increases pretty fast, which is not typical of other units I've experienced.
- According to the manual (I haven't tried this feature), you also have an hour timer option of setting the unit to turn on or off after so many hours. This means, for example, you can program it to turn off 5 hours later or turn on 5 hours later.
- The unit has a small footprint (see cavaet below), so it doesn't take up much floor space.
With regard to the operation of the unit, you must remember to press and hold the on/off button to turn off the unit. If you unplug the unit, the humidifier returns to its factory default settings so you'll have to quickly reprogram it every time. This is exceptionally easy to do, but some might find this annoying.
One very nice feature that remains in operation when turning off the unit from the front panel but leaving it plugged in is that the humidity of the room is always displayed. Obviously, you lose this benefit when you unplug the humidifier from the wall outlet.
When setting the unit to the automatic feature that enables it to operate like a thermostat, the unit may cycle on and off every few seconds or minutes depending on the humidity of the room, which means you'll hear the fan cycle on and off repeatedly. If this is likely to disturb you while sleeping, then just put the unit into manual mode as I find you can never have too much humidity in the winter anyway. Of course, make sure you have enough water in the tank to run all night. The tank is rated to hold water for 36 hours of continuous use. However, I have only been able to get 10 hours continuous use on a tank at the highest humidity setting - so keep this in mind when leaving the unit unattended.
I ordered the wick filters from the manufacturer because they are hard to find elsewhere; even though Wal Mart and other local stores carry the Holmes line, they don't necessarily sell all the filters for every model. The filters arrived promptly within a few days.
The box says the unit comes with a 5-year limited warranty but the pamphlet inside says a 3-year limited warranty. I called Holmes at 1-800-546-5637 and they confirmed it was actually a 3-year limited warranty, so don't be swayed by the box advertising.
There is one caveat that you might consider important, although this would not deter me from buying the unit. Since this unit is a tower model, it is easier to knock over (especially on an unsturdy surface such as carpet). You might want to take this into consideration in case you have young kids that run around or large pets that might wreck havoc in your house--meaning you may have to alter the placement of the unit to account for this scenario. My observation is that the chances of knocking this unit over are somewhat higher than the squat-to-the-floor models I'm so use to and which have been so ineffective.
Overall, I am very impressed with the unit compared to the four other humidifiers I've had previously. I had a Vicks humidifier, a different Holmes humidifier, a Hunter humidifier, and another one whose name I can't remember. I've always been less than satisfied, so this is a nice change. I've been so pleased with this unit that over six months later, I ordered a second one.
Update October 2010 - Finally one of my unit's humidity sensors failed. However, since I've had this unit for several years that is to be expected. I can still use the unit to increase the humidity in the room but I just won't know what the humidity level is unless I look at my second humidifier.
