(More customer reviews)Great product, at least in comparison. I've tried many smaller units that should have kept my two room apt. (according to claims) here in the remote northeast satisfactorily humid, i.e. 35% or so. None of them did; in fact they all sent the gauge to unreadably low levels, below 20%. This Bemis 800 space saver keeps humidty at about 40% for at least 2 months, after which the it slowly declines as the wick deteriorates. I replaced the wick for the first time this winter on Jan 22. Not bad. Seems as if it will be a two wick winter.
As to noise. I keep the Bemis on low, and it runs 24/24 during the driest months. It is quieter than any of the other units I've used. It's not silent but it is certainly not disturbingly loud. I'm picky about noise and humidity as I play guitars. I've never turned it on high so I can't comment on the noise at that setting.
I fill it once a day with about 4 gallons of water. It comes with a 3 or 4 foot hose that attaches to a sink faucet. I keep the Bemis in the kitchen. Sometimes I roll it to the sink, sometimes I fill it with a pitcher. It is much easier to fill than the smaller units I've owned.
I have only one minor nit to pick with the unit. The fan housing is a little tricky to remove (or rather to put back correctly). One needs to remove it to change the wick. Tricky because the base is basically one large square bowl and the plastic sidewalls bow when the top is removed. When replacing the top, it is essential that it fits snugly into the base and placement becomes the tricky part due to the bowed in sides. It's not a terribly big deal but it's a bit of a pain. (When not placed correctly the unit rattles and the suction through the wick isn't as good).
By the way, my unit is the non digital version. I've had trouble with other digital humidifiers so I went for the less expensive mechanical version this time. The digital units cycle on and off constantly when the humidity reaches your chosen setting. Annoying, and can't be good for the motor.
The Bemis is definitely worthy, I'm very happy with it.

Enviracaire EWM-211D Slant Fin Humidifier Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this after our old school Vicks humidifer started spurting out water instead of steam. I really didn't want to spend this much money on a humidifier, but I didn't want to keep replacing them either.
I did a fair amount of research on this one and I received it last week. So far, it's much easier to fill than the Vicks. I can put it in the tub and it's full in no time. I love the carrying handle too! It is fairly quiet, as compared to the old Vicks humidifier and on the low setting you can barely hear it. However, there is a loud glug glug glug as the water enters the steam chamber. My son hasn't been woken by it so I guess it's not that big of an issue. The output is good, and so far, I've been able to run this nightly on Low, 70% for three to four nights without a refill.
After a full week of nightly use, the heating element was 2/3 covered with scale, even with using the mineral absorbtion pads. The pad wasn't hard and inflexible so I can continue to use it. But I decided to clean it anyway. Filling it with vinegar and using an old toothbrush cleaned the scale off within a few minutes. I guess we have fairly hard water here in Georgia.
I'm not entirely sure what the hygrometer on the display is for, and it doesn't seem entirely accurate to me. The display is also very hard to read at night. You almost have to be right on top of it to read the numbers. The display backlight is light blue and the numbers display in a darker blue. So if you are not viewing it up close at the right angle, the entire readout disappears. That is the only real design flaw of this humidifier.

(More customer reviews)Once we figured out how to use this due to un-specific directions, it seems to work OK. It has cap adapters for both the half- and one- liter bottles. It would seem the one-liter bottle would be top-heavy for this light weight unit. Do not attempt to use a two-liter bottle! They include a nylon bag to transport the unit in but we will use a one quart zip-lock for the unit and the nylon bag for the power cord. This will help us in those arid motel rooms and in our travel trailer when we are in dry climates to prevent sinus problems.

(More customer reviews)It's better than the Sears "panless" we bought several years ago. Decent build quality for what it is. Very easy to install/assemble. Comes with everything needed to install. Handy window to see how the pad is doing. Am using additive to reduce or prevent calcification of the pad, we'll see how that goes. It says can be installed in a place without a drain but ... I wouldn't do that. I does have a built-in overflow drain in the pan so they've clearly planned on overflow. Comes with hose to get between that and the drain. Whacky press-fit drain cup feature. Never had to press-fit a DIY thing before. Fill mechanism is a pretty decent looking float valve. The Sears used a solenoid valve that got so hot it would burn skin.

(More customer reviews)I have an Emerson console-type humidifier that is allegedly capable of putting 13 gallons of water into the air in a 24-hour period. It came with filters from the factory that seem to stand up to this claim. The factory filters are pleated paper, not these fibrous, spongy type that are commonly described as "OEM" replacements.
These honeycomb, fibrous filters work well for a couple of days and then start to lose their ability to draw water up into themselves. Within two weeks they are hard as a rock and no longer wick. This is my second season with these things. I go through an entire case of them (8 sets of 4) in 3 months. The original-style filters, while more expensive, would last me almost 2 months and put much more water into the air (10 gallons a day on the 'medium' fan setting).
It is now difficult to find the pleated, accordian type filters but they are the only ones that work. My advice is to try to find the originals.

We have a room dedicated to small parrots, and they produce a lot of dander that we don't want to spread into the rest of the house. Our old Honeywell worked well, but it was hard to clean and fairly loud. This new one is much quieter, and works just as well, filtering a great amount of dander out of the air. It is far easier to clean, and the fact that no filters ever need to be replaced was a major reason for our purchase. It is running constantly, but it is virtually unnoticeable. I could not find the filters instore anywhere, which was very annoying but I think I saw them at WalMart recently. We run the vaporizor almost 24 hrs a day since our baby girl was born 2.5 yrs ago and I have used 4 filters. It's good for white noise too. Just remember to run it dry each time to make the filter last longer and prevent mildew from growing in the container.

The company is BestAir (aka Endust). The material around the filter is not the usual black but silver looking and I think it is made of metal and very strong. It is also coated with an antibacterial treatment. I would definately order this filter again.

(More customer reviews)I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis. To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems. The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".
This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate. The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly. I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom. My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating. The product loses one star for that.
I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.
