(More customer reviews)Very happy with this filter system. It really works to clean smoke from the house. Our house has been closed up for about the past month, running the air. Usually, we get enough cool weather to open windows an night... not this year. Running the variable fan on my furnace constantly on very low and as the air kicks in, I can't even tell we've been smoking as we come in from outside. Very Good!
I had turnd off (unpluged) the electrostatic part for a (I'd thought) day... forgot I'd done it and it went a few weeks before the smoke smell forced me to check it. A few days after repluging it in, the house was clean again (no residual smoke signature)! Had it 6 months or so and will probably replace the filter for first time in another month or 2, since I run it constantly this summer.

The Air Cleaner Replacement Element I ordered from Amazon was original equipment and I was able to install it myself in less than 30 minuites. I had to order two elements because of boxing and transportion problems but no big deal as I now have one media in reserve.
I admit I had done it before and had some trouble because I tried to install it without reading the instructions are on the box. They must be followed very very carefully. You must have very good lighting because the instructions on box are dim and the instructions on black plastic of Air Cleaner itself are difficult to see. Two things to watch out for: Step 4 removing pleat spacers. They snap into holes and do not twist as instructions say. Merely apply pressure upward and pull them out of snap-in holes. Second problem area is Step 8 where you have to unsnap the edges which hold the element. Aprilaire has a special Figure 4 drawing for this and you should look at it very carefully because it is critical. If you follow the instructions carefully you will have no problem installing the media. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL WITHOUT READING THE INSTRUCTIONS. The company that would normally install the element in my home charges $50 just to come to home plus $75 per hour for installation charge and full retail price for the replacement element. It is definately a lot cheaper and easier ordering the element from Amazon and doing the job yourself. It was also nice to have the media delivered to my doorstep rather than drive to the distributer in rush hour traffic and pay full retail price.
If you do the same remember to "read the instructions carefully" before attempting the replacement. If you try to replace the element without reading the instructions you will have trouble -- I guarantee it.

An increase in relative humidity expands the nylon ribbon which opens the control switch to stop operation of the humidifier. A decrease in relative humidity reverses the process and closes the control switch.

I suffer from many airborne allergies and this filter has helped me avoid the use of an inhaler for a few seasons. In San Antonio, TX the pollen is year round, unfortunately, it means I cannot open my house to the breeze but living in filtered air is so much better for me.
This filter is very easy to install. It lasts as long as I would expect, and it works like I expected. This is my 2nd purchase of this filter through Amazon.
Amazon shipped it in a timely manner and I am pleased.

Aprilaire Space-Gard 401 Replacement Filter Review

(More customer reviews)Great for saving money but takes 10-15 minutes to set up properly since you have to remove the old clips and install this new filter. Since I'm dumb, it took me 35 minutes because I didn't fan it correctly the first time. You have to space each fold of the accordian design into each spacer correctly and not skip any. It has a learning curve and will be easier next time. There is an easier product that has the frame alreay built but it's more expensive. Also, there is a permanent model that you can wash but I couldn't find it on Amazon since buying my new furnace summer 2008 and needing the replacement Spring 2009. The washable permanent model would definitely be my cup of tea if I can find it again. But this is your cheapest alternative for the time being, if you require a #401 MERV 10 filter.

(More customer reviews)I bought Aprilaire Model 600 humidifier to replace an old one and installed it myself. The installation was easy with clear instructions and duct cutting templets. Works fine, the difference in air humidity is noticeable. Automatic mode with the outside temperature sensor is a good feature. Be aware that if your furnace does not have humidifier control 24V terminals with automatic turn-on, you will need a current sensor, which is not included. Check the manual to find the current sensor model number, so that you can by it at the same time.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Aprilaire 700 to replace the model 110 that quit working after 15 years. Several reviews said this was a good choice so I thought I'd give it a try.
Everything arrived in one box and the instructions were very clear. Since I was replacing an older power model, the wiring was already done for me but it looked easy enough. I did replace the water supply line which came with the new humidifier and had to cut a larger hole in the plenum and smaller hole in the return air supply for the humidistat.
In all, it took me about 2 hours to cut and fit the new one in. I did't use the outdoor temp. sensor because I prefer to use a manual setting. The unit has been operating flawlessly for a couple of months and the humidity in my house has risen to where it's much more comfortable. I'd recommend this unit.
